Jud McMillin

Jud focuses his practice on criminal defense, expungements, and specialized driving privileges and is licensed to practice in all of Indiana’s 92 counties as well as the Northern and Southern Federal Districts of Indiana.

Jud is an experienced trial attorney and has dedicated his practice to providing zealous advocacy for the criminally accused in the southeast Indiana region for more than a decade. Jud is a skilled negotiator and an aggressive advocate in the courtroom on issues large and small.

Jud graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 1999 and graduated from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Law School in 2002. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio in 2002 and in the State of Indiana in 2003.

He began his career as a prosecutor in Montgomery County, Ohio, prosecuting everything from low level misdemeanors to serious and complex cases including drug offenses to murder and virtually everything in between. Having experience prosecuting cases has provided Jud with a unique perspective and ability to view his cases from the prosecutorial mindset which helps him to anticipate steps the State will take. This ultimately helps in advising clients about potential strengths and pitfalls of their case, and also allows him to negotiate resolutions or argue his cases in court more effectively.

In 2005 Jud joined the family practice and began building up a robust criminal defense practice, serving clients all around the southeast Indiana region.

Jud also served as State Representative from 2010 to 2015 as chairman of the Courts and Criminal Code Committee and Majority Floor Leader. During his tenure at the statehouse, Jud authored and co-authored numerous criminal laws that focused on reforming the criminal justice system, which included Indiana’s 2014 Criminal Code Reform bill, an expansion of specialized driving privileges and Indiana’s expungement law.

Jud is a lifelong resident of Franklin County and has served in many different capacities, supporting a multitude of causes to help improve his hometown.

Jud continues to use his vast experience to fight for good results for those accused of crimes, by helping them exercise their constitutional rights in an effective manner. He handles his cases aggressively, but with great care, taking into account the many issues that arise during the life of a criminal case. Jud works hard to limit his clients’ exposure and to work towards a satisfactory resolution in every case.

In his free time, Jud enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children at their home in Franklin County.
